Will you be in the best shape ever this holiday?
It’s said that the older we get, the faster time seems to speed by. Just a few weeks ago, it was in the 100s, and now homes have their Halloween decorations up. And that means one thing: the holiday season is here. That follows with the scary thought: we’re already on our countdown to Christmas!
Are you ready for all of the holiday parties?
When we feel like we need to lose a few pounds or tone up, it can be disheartening to go shopping for a new holiday party dress or suit. But it doesn’t have to be. You have nearly three months left to turn the bus around and look fabulous. And we have just the hints to get you there!
1. Switch Up Your Diet
Everywhere you look, there’s a “new” way to eat. Perhaps it’s low fat, high fat, low carb, or high protein; everyone has a theory. Of course, everyone is different.
If you’ve been following a certain diet for a while with no movement on the scale or in the mirror, it might be time to switch it up. Just because one thing is a trend doesn’t mean it’s right for your body. As you countdown to Christmas, give yourself 3–5 weeks on anything new to see if it’s working for you. If it’s not, reevaluate.
Just be sure that you’re eating! Dieting does not mean starving yourself. If the diet you’re on requires you to starve, you should probably choose something different.
2. Move More
It’s no secret that weight loss occurs when we eat fewer calories and burn off more of what we take in. Once you choose a diet that works for your life and goals, it’s time to increase your movement and start the shedding process. Luckily for us, the countdown to Christmas is the perfect times to be outside in Phoenix.
If you wear a step tracker, aim for 10,000 steps a day. You can achieve that with some simple activities:
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Park farther from buildings and walk in.
- Walk the dog/kid/spouse around the neighborhood.
- Clean the house (you’d be amazed how many steps you can get!).
Pretty much anything that gets you moving more is a good thing. Have fun with it!
3. Buddy Up
Doing anything with a friend is easier than doing it yourself. Having a workout buddy can keep you motivated and help push you even farther than you would go solo.
Your friend can be on the whole journey with you, including working out more and tightening up your diet. Or they can just be an accountability partner who’s been there before. Someone who has had success already is a great option since they know the hurdles you’ll likely face and can help overcome them.
Anyone can be a buddy: your spouse, business colleague, friend, sibling, parent, or child. Set a schedule and get out there together! Plus, you can countdown to Christmas and discuss all of the gifts, parties, and decorations you’ll be involved in.
4. Join a Club
If you’re not already a member of a gym, that monthly bill can be a good reminder that you are paying for the privilege to exercise regularly. It stinks when money is coming out of your checking account every month while you’re sitting around getting out of shape.
But even if a health club isn’t the thing for you, you can still join a different type of club. How about a tennis club, hiking club, or golf club? Heck, even bowling is good exercise when you’re doing it right! A quick Google search can show you local clubs that might be perfect for you. And if all else fails, try Meetup. There are a number of different events hosted on the site, and you can check out most of them for free to see if there’s a fit.
